4 benefits of eating the rainbow
🌶 Red is for the heart and blood. Tomatoes, radishes, red cabbage, beets, as well as berries, pomegranates and red apples contribute to lowering the risk of atherosclerosis (the cogging of blood vessels), high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Lycopene is the antioxidant responsible for the benefits.
🥕 Orange & yellow are for the eyes and immunity. Mango, orange and yellow peppers, squash, apricots, sweet potatoes, and pineapple contain beta-carotene, which is the precursor for vitamin A, essential for healthy vision. Beta carotene is also important for the immune system, as it can increase the number and activity of immune cells.
🥬 Green is for detoxification. Dark leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, asparagus, spirulina, and herbs like parsley contain chlorophyll, which supports the natural detoxification processes in the liver by producing glutathione.
🫐 Blue & purple are for cognitive health. Blueberries, blackberries, figs, purple cabbage, red onions, red grapes and plums contain flavonoids, like anthocyanin, which may slow cognitive decline, improve memory and motor skills, and reverse memory loss.
