Article: Nutrition as a form of self care

Nutrition as a form of self care

Nutrition as a form of self care

You may or may not be familiar with the concept of using nutrition as a form of self-care. Believe it or not, they do go hand-in-hand, and if anything, are on the same level of importance as your mental and physical health.

Self care is about balance and enjoyment, and this is where food comes into play. No, we are not talking about quick weight loss fads or diet restrictions that focus on a strict aesthetic goal. Rather, we want you to enjoy varied, nutritionally dense and exciting meals that make you feel your best and happiest. (Yes this can include chocolate and your favourite glass of wine!)

When you incorporate good nutrition into your daily routine, it becomes an active part of yourself-care routine. Feeding your body the nutrients, minerals and macronutrients that it needs to not only survive, but perform too.

An important reminder that there is no standard for self care, and we all practice in different ways that suit us. For some, a long walk in nature or meditating makes you feel your calmest, whilst a trip to the gym or reading a book is the norm for others.

Here are some of our favourite tips to begin your self care journey when it comes to food, and improving your relationship.

  1. Use cooking as a form of self care and get creative in the kitchen. Ditch the takeaways once in a while and find an online recipe, there are so many to choose from!
  2. A fibre rich, wholefood diet does wonders for your skin. Yes a spa treatment is lovely, but remember to treat your skin internally too! Glow from the inside out.
  3. Slow carb not NO carb. Say goodbye to low carb diets and instead focus on slow releasing carbohydrates that will keep you fuller for longer through the day.
The key message is to focus on consuming colourful, vibrant, whole foods through balanced meals, that are made up of nutrient dense foods. If you find yourself challenged by lack of time and organisation, our 5 day subscription meal path is the perfect solution to supporting your self care journey.
